  1. Unfortunately, Vermont doesn't have the state matching funds to collect all the Federal wildlife money now available. This wetlands program requires a 1 to 1 match of state to federal money.
It will even get worse when and if the climate change bill passes the Senate (it just passed the House see previous post). It has real money in it for wildlife adaptation (read habitat improvement). But it also requires state matching money.
More than ever Vermont needs a stable, reliable and adequate funding source such as the one supported by the VT Wildlife Partnership (VWP) if we are going to be able to capitalize on this new federal money.
We (the Federation of Sportsman's Clubs and the VWP made progress in the last session of the VT Legislature on the 1/8th of 1 cent sales tax proposal, but every legislator needs to hear from the hunters, fishers, trappers and wildlife lovers in their district. Now is the time to seek them out and let them know you want everyone in Vermont to help support our wildlife and wild places.
